The dispensary of Hainaut opened its doors on 27 November 2004.
The opening of the fourth animal dispensary in Hainaut Province, was possible with the financial assistance of the province and of the social housing association. "Logements de Boussu-Hornu" and conforms to a profound aspiration of the Foundation, very much aware of the considerable precariousness present in this district.

Established in Hornu, in the very heart of the Borinage, right in the centre of a social housing estate belonging to BH Logements, and covering a surface of some120 square meter, the new animal dispensary

  is a close copy of those already existing in Brussels, Seraing and Antwerp. It will provide medical help for the animals belonging to poverty-stricken people. Available will be two consulting-rooms, a surgery, an animal rest-room, a numerical X-ray room, a cold room, a records office, toilets for the personnel and another one for visitors, an administrative area, including a receiving desk, and not forgetting a waiting room.

Furthermore the animal dispensary for Hainaut province is equipped with an ambulance, containing all the necessary features as well as a stretcher, so animals can be taken back to their owner's house after surgery. The dispensary will, in an emergency, also be able to intervene.
In this way it should be possible to answer over the entire territory of Hainaut province, the needs both those of sick animals as well as the requirements of the most deprived persons.

  

 
The team of the dispensary in Hornu consists of two veterinary doctors, an administrative secretary and an ambulance driver, and some volunteers in charge of the reception and the help of the public.
Since the opening of the dispensary more than 20.000 animals have received help.
